Starting the Computer in Safe Mode

Because many Virus's, Spyware and Adware programs are loaded and run at System startup it is an advantage to start the Computer in Safe Mode. This is a special way of running Windows that only loads the minimum number of Drivers that Windows needs to operate and bypasses many optional programs.

To start the Computer in Safe mode it is necessary to repeatedly push the " F8 " buttons until the options menu apears. On a fast Computer or one that hides the startup sequence behind a logo this may take a few attemps. You may be able to push the " TAB " or similar to close the logo . This can help. A screen similar to this apears. Use the " up or down arrows " to highlight " Safe Mode " and then push " Enter "

Windows Advanced Options Menu

The Computer will then display a large amount of  writing on the Screen as it starts. It will then ask the question if you want to use System Restore or Start in Safe Mode. Choose Safe Mode. The screen that then apears will look different to normal. Icons will be bigger and placed differently. Text around the edge of the Screen will indicate Safe Mode..

To exit Safe Mode when finished. Click  Start > Turn off Computer > Restart
